ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
As the Premier League season reaches its climax, the spotlight is firmly on City, who are on the brink of securing their historic fourth successive title. Pep Guardiola's troops, known for their late-season surges, have once again found form since January, putting them in prime position to clinch the title. For Arsenal, it will be a bitter pill to swallow as it marks the second consecutive season they would potentially miss out on top-flight glory due to City's prowess.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
However, the celebrations are overshadowed by the 115 financial charges hanging over City, raising questions about the legitimacy of their recent dominance. They were charged with a string of breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, spanning from 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons back in February 2023, but a judgement is yet to be announced. Guardiola and City officials have consistently defended the club, expressing confidence that they will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

WHAT ARTETA SAID
Arteta, who previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, has carefully navigated questions about the charges. When asked about the situation, Arteta maintained a diplomatic stance, saying: "That’s something for the authorities to manage, it’s not for us. If they are playing, it means they can play and they are entitled to play, and that’s it".

DID YOU KNOW?
The ambiguity surrounding the charges has led to widespread speculation about the possible repercussions for City. Should the reigning champions be found guilty, the consequences could range from financial penalties to points deductions or even the stripping of titles won during the period in question.
