Right-back Phil Bardsley is content to remain with Sunderland and fight for his future with the Black Cats, having recently been linked with a summer transfer.

The 24-year-old former Manchester United defender has been mentioned as a possible target for Premier league new boys Blackpool, but agent Des Wroe says that his client is more than likely to stay put.

He told The Journal:"Of course Phil wants to play first-team football which is no different from any other player.

"But Phil will happily go back to Sunderland in pre-season and fight it out with any new signings that Steve Bruce decides to make in his position.

"Phil loves being at Sunderland – he loves the club and I don't think he would want to move in an ideal world.

"It's a good club and he's certainly not got a problem with anyone there. He's a positive lad and he'll go in and have confidence that he can prove his worth to the manager.

"I think if someone comes in for him and Sunderland accept a bid then obviously that may change, but Phil will happily be back at the club over the summer."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
